Describe the bug

Evening Modrinth Team,

I will make the issues concise!

When closing the application, then and only then does the app try to update. This causes various problems, but here are the two key ones I personally feel are the most... disagreeable.

  • Because of the update, the app will open itself back up immediately after closing. This is annoying. This wastes precious time. I've had to close the app 8 more times a week than I should have had to just to get it off my screen. Most importantly? It causes a second issue:
  • The app opens on closure for the update. Meaning if you say, restart your computer and close all apps with modrinth open? It opens itself to update during the windows shutdown. Windows will think the app is already closed, and as a result cut the update and corrupt it. I've had to full reinstall modrinth 2 times due to this issue.

Suggested solution: Checking for updates should occur when opening the app. Not closing it. Additionally, app should close when told to close. Not re-open.

Thank you for taking time to read this :)

Steps to reproduce

  • Open Modrinth App, usually when there is a newer version available.
  • Close Modrinth app

-Voila.

To corrupt modrinth:

  • Open Modrinth App, preferably when there is a new version available and you don't realize this.
  • Shut down the PC using the menus.
  • If done correctly, windows will close all open applications, including Modrinth, and start the shut down sequence.
  • As a final swansong, modrinth will open itself again to update, and be promptly slapped in the face with a lack of power, corrupting the update and usually forcing a re-install to stop error messages.

Expected behavior

The app tries to update... when opening instead of closing.
