A `k` parameter was added to track wavefront diagonal explicitly. `worstCaseEdtis = lena + lenb` is used as fuel for snakes (which is always sufficient) The key insight: fuel-based termination sidesteps the unprovable boundedNodes invariant that cascaded through dstep iterations, while the explicit k parameter avoids requiring PLE to derive kdiag (head xs) = k from wfDiags k xs at each call site.
